Flat Rock is an oil and gas exploration and production company that develops, funds, and implements drilling programs in the Appalachian Basin, with a focus on the production of oil and natural gas from the Utica Shale and Marcellus Shale formations. We currently operate a position of approximately 20,000 gross developable acres of shale reserves (including Utica Shale and Marcellus Shale reserves) in the southeastern Ohio counties of Monroe and Washington.

Natural gas is a major domestic source of clean electricity, and provides increasingly important alternatives to oil-based transportation fuels and petrochemical building blocks. Environmentally conscious production of this valuable resource from shale rock and other formations provides a cost effective mechanism to stimulate national and regional economic development, promote energy independence, and limit carbon emissions.

Flat Rock was founded by West Virginians who are devoted to the local community and region. We are here for the long haul, and our management decisions are based on local principles and values. We believe that the access to plentiful, low cost oil and natural gas from the Utica Shale and Marcellus Shale formations will have a transformational impact on the regional economy and has the opportunity to create a prosperous region for decades to come.
